About

I'm a journalist and writer with more than 25 years of experience in broadcast and written media. I specialize in investigative and long-form narrative nonfiction for film, audio and print.

I co-produced the 2025 HBO documentary The Alabama Solution that follows a 6-year investigation into runaway violence and corruption in the Alabama Department of Corrections. In 2023, a podcast series I created, reported and wrote called Earwitness was released by Lava for Good. The series interrogates the wrongful conviction of Toforest Johnson, who is still on Alabama’s death row despite prosecutors calling for a new trial.

I’ve done extensive reporting on Alabama’s prison system with work appearing in The Daily Beast, The Los Angeles Times, The Bitter Southerner and Facing South. I publish a newsletter on Substack called Moth to Flame that includes my reporting and essays written at the intersection of justice, injustice and life in Alabama.

I hold a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and was named a 2018-2019 Pen America Writing for Justice fellow.

When I'm not asking questions, writing stories, or teaching, I'm likely reading, baking or dancing!

My agent is Julia Eagleton at Janklow & Nesbit. Her email is JEagleton@janklow.co.uk.
